Neil Simon’s ‘Lost in Yonkers’ will be performed at the Margate Community Church in May.

MARGATE – Fool Moon Theatre Company’s production of Neil Simon’s “Lost in Yonkers” will be performed on May 12-14 and 19-21 at the Margate Community Church, 8900 Ventnor Ave. (entrance on Thurlow Avenue).

Hilarious and heart-breaking, “Lost in Yonkers” is a powerful comedy about two young boys learning to become adults in 1942 Yonkers when they are forced to live with their tough-as-nails Grandma, sweet but ditzy aunt, and charming but dangerous gangster uncle.

bLost in Yonkers won a Pulitzer Prize for drama, as well as the Tony Award for best play and the Drama Desk Award for outstanding lay.

According to the New York Post, it is the best play Simon ever wrote.

The cast is composed of Fool Moon veterans and outstanding performers new to the Fool Moon stage. The pivotal roles of the adolescent brothers Jay and Arty are played by newcomers Will Leiby and Dylan Saganiec.

“These young men are wonderful in very difficult roles,” Director Paul Herron said. “It’s rare that two actors so young have the confidence and comic timing to anchor such a powerful show.”

Other performers include Fool Moon stalwarts, Kate Read as Bella, Kerry Burns as Eddie, Chick Leiby (Will’s dad) as Louie, Giulietta Consalvo as Gert and Pattye Herron as Grandma. The 1940s set is designed by veteran theater designer Joseph Lazarus.

“Lost in Yonkers” is the first show in Fool Moon Theatre’s 2023 season. The charming and hilarious “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be performed in July. The wacky and mysterious “Clue” will open in September, and back by popular demand, “The Christmas Extravaganza” will be performed in December.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Ticket prices are $30 regular admission, $25 for seniors, and $10 for children 12 and younger. Advance tickets are available on Eventbrite. Cash, check and Venmo will be accepted for tickets at the door. For group sales, text 609-457-0903.
