Longport Police Chief Frank Culmone
LONGPORT – Police Chief Frank Culmone has become the first Longport Police officer to be nominated, selected and graduate from the FBI National Academy.
Created in 1935 by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, the 10-week academy program includes a thorough background investigation, educational and physical prerequisites. Only the top 1% of law enforcement leaders worldwide are selected to attend.
The FBI National Academy is founded on three pillars, academics, physical fitness and networking.
All academy students are required to take college level courses at the University of Virginia. Culmone selected all master’s level courses and completed those courses as one of the top students in his academy class, earning a graduate certificate from the University of Virginia.
Courses he completed include:
- Contemporary Issues Confronting Law Enforcement Executives
- Constitutional Law and Policing Trends, Analysis and Application
- Executive Writing
- Managing the Law Enforcement Image
- Essentials for Law Enforcement Executives
- Fitness in Law Enforcement
Students are also required to participate in multiple fitness challenges, including running the famous Yellow Brick Road, a grueling 6.1-mile obstacle course through the hills of Quantico that was created by the U.S. Marine Corps. Culmone successfully completed all the fitness challenges as well as the Yellow Brick Road, earning him the notable Yellow Brick.
Over the 10-week course, Culmone had the opportunity to network and develop relationships with 238 other academy students, who represented 47 states and 25 countries, five military organizations, and six federal civilian organizations.

After completion of the 10-week program, that included receiving his certificate from FBI Director Christopher Wray, the Longport Police officers are happy to have him back at the helm.
His officers agree that Culmone’s efforts are inspirational as he continues to pave the way for officers throughout the Downbeach community by setting the bar higher each and everyday.
