VENTNOR – Children ages 5-17 are invited to participate in the Ventnor City Beach Patrol’s annual Junior Lifeguard Program being held 10:30-noon Monday through Friday, July 3 and July 5-7 for 5-9 year olds; 10:30-noon, Monday-Thursday, July 10-13 for 10-14 year-olds. The Lifeguard Explorer Program will be held 10:15-noon, Monday-Thursday, July 17-20 for those 13-17 years old.

The camps will be held at the Beach Patrol’s new Headquarters on Suffolk Avenue and the beach. In the event of thunder/lighting or heavy downpours the camp will not be held.

The programs are designed to educate children about beach and ocean safety, promote interpersonal relationship, build teamwork and introduce children to the skills needed to become a lifeguard. Explorers will learn to perform different rescues, use buoys, surf boats, donuts and paddleboards, and learn about components of the ocean that lifeguards observe to keep swimmers safe.

The day starts with a team stretch, warm-ups and then breaks up into rotating stations. On the last day of each camp, there will be competitions including a beach run, surf dash and beach flags and a barbeque.

Those interested can sign up online at ventnorcity.org/departments/beachpatrol. Cost is $15 per child and includes a Jr. Lifeguard T-shirt.
