VENTNOR – Students of the city’s middle school enjoyed an end-of-the-school-year Super Extravaganza on the grounds behind the Ventnor Educational Community Complex, Tuesday, June 13.

It was the second to last day of school that included no learning whatsoever, only fun and games under a bright blue sky and brilliant sunshine. The day included lots of blow-up games, hula hoop tosses, fake tattoos, hamburgers, candy, music and prizes.

The day honors middle school students who maintained good grades and excellent behavior throughout the school year.

Teachers monitored the games and passed out tickets good for prizes on the tables across the driveway. Teachers worked throughout the year collecting donations and prizes to award to students. Other teachers cooked up the burgers, and several police officers kept a watchful eye on the proceedings.

A group of students sat in a circle singing a song about being “united.”

Cecelia Manera said the highlight of the school year was the eighth grade dance. She’s headed to Atlantic County Institute of Technology in the fall where she will learn how to be a medical assistant, she said.

“I’m looking forward to being in a new school, meeting new friends, but I’ll miss how everyone here is together and united,” she said.

Her classmate Angelina Georgio, who is looking forward to commencement on Wednesday evening, said she suspects things will be a little bit different when she goes to Atlantic City High School in the fall.

“I’m going to miss how small it is here and how everyone knows each other, not only in eighth grade, but in all the grades,” she said. “I’m sure high school will be a lot different, but I’m excited for the opportunity.”
