MARGATE – The Margate Business Association is planning another great beach party, Saturday, June 24 when the 12th Beachstock is held on the beach and around the Margate Public Library complex between Huntington and Granville avenues.

Admission to the beach is free that day and beach badges are not required to participate in the “The Planet’s Biggest Beach Party.” The event features new food vendors, children’s activities, live music, free surf and kite lessons and more. Beachstock attracts more than 5,000 visitors each year, all of them looking for a day of sand, sun and fun.

Back this year is the Margate Cornhole Spring League Championship and the Beachstock Family Fun Cornhole Tournament. Watch the tourneys from the Chill Zone tent serving up comfy seats and refreshments.

Red Bull Foam Wreckers will hold a soft board Surf Classic, an anti-surf contest where only soft boards are allowed. There a few rules but maximum fun. Boards will be provided. The cost to play is $25 and pre-registration is required at www.margatehasmore.com.

Sustainable Downbeach will feature fun educational programs on terrapins and other marine life, along with an environmental walk; Emerald Isle Academy of Irish Dance will perform choreographed dance routines; and Matthew Deibert will conduct sand sculpting lessons.

The 14-hour event includes lots of live music on the main stage. Acts performing include No Clue Trio performing country music, Mas Tequila Orchestra performing classic rock and Jah People will offer a crowd-pleasing performance as the evening headliner.

At twilight, a bonfire lights the way for South Pacific Island Dancers and their Samoan fire knife dance. At dusk, children and families can spread out a blanket and enjoy a movie on the big screen.

If all that is not enough, the party is starting a day earlier this year. For the first time ever, Beachstock will host a free Wiffle Ball Home Run Derby on the Granville Avenue beach 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 23. Derby participants will be divided into age groups and have 10 swings to show their stuff. Prizes will be awarded for the most home runs in each age group. Pre-register online at www.margatehasmore.com.

Afterward, watch the Philadelphia Phillies battle the NY Mets on the big screen starting at 7:05 p.m. USA DJ will provide commentary, and of course, $2 hot dogs and $3 beers will be available.
