First Place, Aizah Haider of Texas Avenue Middle School.

ABSECON – Join Together Atlantic County, a countywide substance misuse prevention coalition, has announced that Aizah Haider of the Texas Avenue Middle School took first place in this year’s underage drinking prevention art contest.

Students in grades 6-8 were invited to create artwork with a message to parents from youths about the dangers of underage alcohol and marijuana use, especially for those under age 21. The second and third place winners chose to remain anonymous.

The top three were awarded prizes and Haider will have his artwork turned into a billboard to be placed in a prominent location.

The younger a person starts drinking, the more likely he or she is to have alcohol problems later in life. By participating in this contest, Atlantic County’s middle schoolers help JTAC’s mission to prevent, reduce and/or delay substance use among youth of Atlantic County in a long term and sustainable manner.
