LONGPORT – The Board of Commissioners Wednesday, Aug. 16 declared the day as “Madelyn Fox, Emma Barnhart, Alivia Wainwright, Megan Fox and Morgan Lancaster Day” in honor of their victory in the Bill Howarth Women’s Invitational lifeguard races held Aug. 9 in Ventnor.

Commissioner of Public Safety Dan Lawler read a proclamation honoring the women who obtained 18 out of 20 possible points in the annual lifeguard competition named in honor of Ventnor Beach Patrol Captain and longtime swimming coach Bill Howarth who died of pancreatic cancer in 2016. The event considered the women’s version of the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships.

Fox and Barnhart placed first in the doubles row; Fox was first in the swim and second in the singles row; and Wainwright, Fox, Barnhart and Lancaster were second in the surf dash.

The team was also honored for their ongoing commitment to protecting residents and visitors as members of the Longport Beach Patrol.
