LONGPORT – The borough will hold its annual Hazard Mitigation and Local Emergency Planning Committee meeting 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 in Commission Chambers at Longport Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave.

Members of the public are encouraged to participate in planning to ensure life and property are protected during an emergency.

Items on the agenda include a talk about this year’s hurricane season with retired Meteorologist Jim Eberwine. The borough’s engineer will speak on current and proposed flooding mitgation projects, and information will be shared about the borough’s participation in the Community Rating System, which reduces the cost of flood insurance for homeowners.

Attendees will also learn about available grants, what to do about nuisance flooding and the borough’s emergency operations plan.
