Volunteer Barb Makoski leads residents of Seashore Gardens Living Center as they solve the weekly crossword puzzle.

Each week, residents get a chance to play word games on the large screen IN2L computer at Seashore Gardens Living Center. At the most recent session in August, they took turns guessing letters for hangman, words for the crossword puzzle, and chatting about the week’s theme, which was country fair.

The IN2L computer is designed specifically for the elderly. It helps seniors to maintain brain function in the areas of memory, attention, language, executive function, and visual/spatial acuity. The system allows residents to travel the world virtually, explore health and wellness resources, enjoy spiritual experiences, or listen to music optimized by music therapists.

The word games were led by volunteer Barb Makoski. As a retired superintendent and teacher, Makoski had the time and wanted to give back to the home that enriched the lives of her parents. She enjoys her weekly visits with the residents.
