ACUA Drive Electric Week

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Whether you are a fan or a skeptic, there is no denying that electric vehicles are on the rise. The state and federal government have set ambitious goals to electrify the transportation sector to address emissions that accelerate climate change. Currently in New Jersey, there are more than 123,700 EVs on the road and more than 2,000 Level 2 charging stations and more than 900 fast charging ports for people to charge on the go.

With the rapid growth in electric vehicle use, many people have questions and concerns. The Atlantic County Utilities Authority recently hosted two events as part of National Drive Electric Week to provide forums for residents to learn, ask questions and get connected to resources for more information.

On Sept. 26, ACUA offered a virtual presentation highlighting new developments that are changing the future of transportation. Kassandra Damblu of the NJ advocacy group ChargEVC provided details on the status of EVs in New Jersey. Cathleen Lewis, of the Board of Public Utilities shared information about New Jersey and national EV targets and the incentives that are currently available to assist in achieving them. Kyriakos Anastasopoulos of Exelon, parent company of Atlantic City Electric, provided a perspective from the utilities side. Slides from the talk as well as a recording of the hour-long “Lunch and Learn” session are available on ACUA’s website at acua.com/driveelectric.

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, ACUA hosted an in-person vehicle showcase highlighting different models and types of electric vehicles, including a wide range of cars, trucks, fleet vehicles, bicycles, and construction equipment. Participants included EV drivers as well as car and truck dealerships. Attendees had an opportunity to speak directly with people who drive and own EVs.

National Drive Electric Week is celebrated across the US; this year from Sept. 22 to Oct. 1.  Drive Electric events highlight emission reductions, cost savings and other benefits provided by electric vehicles and to answer questions and concerns regarding EVs.
