EGG HARBOR CITY – The Atlantic County Firefighters Association celebrated 100 years since its formation Saturday, Oct. 7 with a parade and gala celebration at City Lake Park.
The parade included more than 130 fire apparatus rolling up Philadelphia Avenue toward the park, where families enjoyed free hot dogs and sodas. The parade lasted nearly an hour and was several miles long. It was loud, with siren blaring from each truck.
Children lined the parade route wearing noise cancelling headsets and waving to Smokey Bear. Shouts of “Thank you for your service” greeted firefighters, many of whom are volunteers.
Fire companies from Atlantic County, the Forest Fire Service, U.S. Air Force and across South Jersey participated in the parade.
