MARGATE – It may be too cold for humans to go to the beach, but it’s not to cold for seals.

The snow covered sign on Benson Avenue reminds visitors that if you see a seal on the beach, give them lots of space and stay at least 150 feet away.

Seals like to come ashore during the winter months to rest and replenish their strength. Close proximity to humans and dogs can stress them out and make them anxious.

If you see a seal the seems to be in distress, call the Marine Mammal Stranding Center at 609-266-0538 or call the local police.
