VENTNOR – Longtime Code Enforcement Officer Jimmy Agnesino will retire on April 1. On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Board of Commissioners passed a resolution accepting his retirement.

Agnesino has worked for the city for 34 years, overseeing the Construction and Code Enforcement offices. He has many certifications and has served as the city’s Zoning Officer for many years.

“He will be sorely missed,” Mayor Lance Landgraf said. “He did a fantastic job and he was one of the first people we spoke to when we took office about what we could do to make the department stronger. There was a little kicking and screaming at first, but there was always a good exchange of ideas.”

Commissioner Tim Kriebel said Agnesino dealt with an influx of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw many part-time residents become full-timers at their vacation homes.

“He scaled the department for the increased volume,” Kriebel said.

Agnesino also served as a part-time Code Enforcement Officer in Longport through a shared services agreement.

Kriebel said Dino Cavalari will be taking over some of Agnesino’s duties.

In other business, the board awarded its third and final liquor consumption license to Ocean Draft, LLC, the highest pre-qualified bidder in a solicitation conducted in 2021. Ocean Draft paid $161,000 for the license, which included a minimum bid amount of $115,000, beating out a second bidder who offered $131,069.

Tony Hoda, operator of Sapore Wood Fire Pizza at 6501 Ventnor Ave. in the Central Business District, underwent a criminal background investigation by the Ventnor Police Department, which concluded there are no issues that would prevent Hoda from owning the license.

Hoda, who had planned to expand Sapore to include an outdoor dining experience, intends to file a subsequent request to transfer the license to his other restaurant, Aroma, located at 5206 Atlantic Ave. in the North Beach area, Administrator Tom Ciccarone said.
