PLEASANTVILLE – A select variety of dogs and cats that are ready for immediate adoption will be available during a special Hurricane Season promotion at the Atlantic County Animal Shelter, beginning Sept. 29.

“The normal adoption fees of $110 for dogs and $85 for cats will be reduced to $25 to help find homes for animals in our care,” shelter Manager Kathy Kelsey said.

“Hundreds of animals were rescued from Hurricane Florence and brought to our area out of harm’s way,” noted County Executive Dennis Levinson. “So at this time, the supply is greater than the demand. We are hoping this promotion may encourage pet adoptions from our shelter.”

All pets adopted from the shelter include mandatory sterilization, age-appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and a free veterinary consultation.

The shelter is open to the public 1-4 p.m. seven days a week, with the exception of Tuesday when it closes at 3 p.m. The shelter is located at 240 Old Turnpike Road.
