Arena Football League is coming to Atlantic City.

The Atlantic City Arena Football League will host an open tryout for players Saturday, March 30 at the Virtua Total Turf Experience, LLC, 614 Lambs Road, in Pitman.

AFL Executive Committee Chairman and Trifecta Sports & Entertainment owner Ron Jaworski, Atlantic City AFL COO George Manias, head coach Ron James and the entire Atlantic City coaching staff will evaluate participants to find the best local talent before training camp begins in early April.

“We know that there is outstanding talent in the South Jersey market, and we encourage those who want to continue their dream of playing professional football to come and tryout for our new franchise in Atlantic City,” Jaworski said.  “We would love to have local talent represented when we take the field for our inaugural home game at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, May 4.”

James said open tryouts are a valuable tool in finding athletes.

“We are serious about evaluating players to make our inaugural roster in Atlantic City and look forward to finding quality football players for our team,” he said.

Players will be tested on their 40-yard dash time and short shuttle with other position-specific drills and one-on-ones to follow. Bring appropriate workout gear and shoes/cleats. Testing will be held on field turf, so no metal cleats are permitted. All positions will be evaluated, including QB, WR, FB, DB, LB, DL and OL and K.  A trainer will be on hand for emergencies only, but not for player taping.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and tryouts will begin at 9 a.m.

A pre-registration fee of $65 is required at AtlanticCityAFL.com before 3 p.m. Friday, March 29.  Registration after that time and on the day of the tryouts will require an application fee of $80 in cash or cashier’s check only.  A T-shirt will be included in the cost and all fees are non-refundable.

The still unnamed team’s season will begin on the road on Saturday, April 27 against the three-time league champions Philadelphia Soul at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. It’s first home game will be held at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, May 4 against Columbus AFL.
