Richmond Avenue branch of the Atlantic City Free Public Library.

ATLANTIC CITY – The Atlantic City Free Public Library is scheduled to reopen both library locations to the public Tuesday, March 16. The library halted public access to Main Library and Richmond Branch Library in December due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

“We’re excited to be able to welcome our public back inside the library,” Library Director Robert Rynkiewicz said. “Personal interaction is increasingly being replaced by the internet, especially with our current COVID-19 emergency, but our staff members miss seeing our wonderful patrons. We are looking forward to seeing familiar faces and greeting new customers.”

Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2-4:30 p.m. Main Library will be open Wednesday through Saturday. Richmond Branch Library will be open Tuesday.

Gov. Phil Murphy’s recent Executive Order caps capacity at 35%. Staff members and customers are required to wear masks and have their temperature checked before entering the building. They will also need to sanitize their hands once inside.

During this walk-through phase, individuals will be given a maximum of 15 minutes to browse for materials and 30 minutes to use a public computer.

“We’re hopeful this reopening is the first step toward normalcy,” Rynkiewicz said. “We expect to be able to operate with less restrictions as the year progresses if COVID cases continue to decline.”
