ATLANTIC CITY – The city and Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation Inc. end their summer “Jazz in the Park” concert series 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at Brown’s Park on Bacharach Blvd.

Organized by Chicken Bone Beach CEO Henrietta Shelton, along with Atlantic City’s Third Ward Councilman Kaleem Shabazz, the concert features the legendary Tim Warfield and his band.

Warfield, a Grammy nominee, is prepared to jam in the park. Veteran saxophonist and Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Jazz Masters of Music Graduate Program at Temple University, who played with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Isaac Hayes and Christian McBride, is also featured.

Chicken Bone Beach’s mission statement is to create pride in the city’s Black heritage and promote family values and unity in Atlantic County. It educates local youth, community members, and tourists to the original American art form–and to celebrate the rich and dynamic African American history during the era of “Chicken Bone Beach,” when Black and brown residents could only use a single beach in Atlantic City and residents gave it this nickname.

“Our goal is to continue to provide opportunities and great music to the people of Atlantic City and the surrounding area,” Program Director Maurice Hayman said.
