LONGPORT – The Board of Commissioners Wednesday, June 16 recognized two borough youths for their creativity in designing the borough’s 2022 beach tags.

Ella Clark was recognized for designing the senior beach tag, and Luna Catanese designed the regular season tag.

Ella said her design included three seagulls standing on the beach, representing her tribe. Ella is a triplet. Her identical siblings Avery and Maddy joined her in receiving the award and posed for pictures in their powder blue flowered sundresses with blue satin bows in their hair.

Luna Catanese and Longport Mayor Nicholas Russo.

It was a special day for Luna, who was celebrating her birthday. Her design features a surfboard, rescue boat, and the deep blue sea under a fluffy cumulus cloud.

Each child was presented with a certificate recognizing them as winners of the contest and a gift boxed tag featuring their design.

In other beach tag business, the commission introduced an ordinance giving beach tag purchasers an extra two weeks to purchase beach tags at the pre-season reduced rate.

Although it is too late in the spring season to offer the extended discount this year, next year, purchasers will have until the first Friday in June to purchase tags at the pre-season rates of $15 per person, $5 for senior citizens. After the first Friday after Memorial Day, rates will rise to $30/$10.

A public hearing on the ordinance, which is expected to pass easily, will be held 4 p.m. July 6 at Borough Hall.
